Portafilter Standard Update & New Documentation Hub

Updated: Mar 18

As of September 2024, all Astoria and Wega espresso machines produced for the US market ship from the factory with 21 gram deep portafilters as the new standard. This replaces the previous 14 gram configuration used on earlier production.

The reference point for this change is serial number B87903. Machines produced before B87903 shipped from the factory with 14 gram portafilters, which remain the original factory specification listed in the parts book. Machines produced from B87903 onward shipped with 21 gram portafilters as standard equipment.

What this means for parts ordering

  • The 21 gram portafilter components are now the current standard for Astoria and Wega machines.

  • The 14 gram portafilter components remain valid, compatible, and correct for machines produced prior to B87903.

  • Both 14 gram and 21 gram portafilters are fully compatible across machines. No additional hardware is required when switching between them.

For pre-B87903 machines, the original parts book will continue to reference 14 gram components, as that is how those machines originally shipped. Many dealers and operators choose to install 21 gram portafilters when servicing or replacing components, but this is optional.
